So, we were having lows in the 40s last week, and now we're having highs in the 90s. Haven't had any rain for a while, and none is predicted until late next week. I like how Mother Nature zooms straight from April to August. The dry air is allowing temps to fall at night, so instead of our typical 20 degree range that we get when it's humid, we're experiencing 30-40 degree ranges. The grass is already starting to turn brown in places.
The forecasts have been calling for sunny weather lately, but every afternoon a fleet of cumulus clouds moves in. It reminds me of Florida with its daily mid-afternoon rains, but so far we haven't wrung a drop out of ours. We have our first air quality alert of the season, which means exercising in the mornings before the ozone levels get dicey. We usually don't get these alerts until later in summer, so here's more evidence that we have in fact skipped June and July. For some reason a lot of the plants around my community have up and died recently. I'm a bit surprised because we didn't have a hard winter once we got the Christmas Bomb Cyclone out of our systems. Some of the bushes in front of my building have parasites of some kind and will need to be treated. But of course we have no board right now, which is a whole 'nother kettle of worms. Speaking of worms, lots of baby robins are off the nest now and are letting their parents know that they expect the chow to keep coming. Parents are looking frazzled, in the manner of parents of small children everywhere. I'm happy to report that I haven't spotted a single chipmunk around my home this year. I noticed a small hole in the mulch bed out front earlier today, but that's probably a snake hole. Snakes good - chipmunks not good. Comments are closed.
