Today's theme: Eau de Laundry
Easter Sunday. Cloudless sky, temps in the low 60s, a little too breezy for my taste. Still too cool for the blooming stuff to be producing much of a fragrance. Many of the plants got hit by a double whammy this year: spring-like temperatures in February followed by a return to winter in March. Any ambitious types that jumped the gun got themselves an unpleasant surprise - so no forsythia to speak of this year. Not that forsythia smells like anything. Unfortunately the air did smell: I got a snootful of fabric softener every other block. If your laundry is "perfuming" the entire block, perhaps you should consider dialing it back a notch? Just a thought. Fortunately a few folks were grilling out, and they were grilling hot dogs! Haven't had a hot dog in ages, but now I really want a hot dog. Many fewer houses had holiday decorations on display this year. Perhaps we've all been beaten into submission by the weather and the politics and the pandemic and oh-have-mercy another round of storms and power outages. Inflatable Shit(TM) has largely been limited to Halloween and Christmas, but I spotted my first Easter Inflatable: a large Easter bunny with manic grin, slowly rocking back and forth like a drunk swaying on his feet. Mr. Bunny's left arm was dangling, about which he was entirely too complacent, so maybe he had had a snootful himself. No wonder these things scare the crap out of little kids. Spotted a viburnum bush with blooms just starting to open. There being nobody in sight, I broke off one blossom which is now sitting in a cup of water at home. I look forward to a fragrant living room for the next little while, which ought to yeet the memory of fabric softener. It will not yeet the vaguely guilty feeling of being a scofflaw, though - nor the memory of a loopy Easter Bunny who's losing body parts. While we're on the subject of holidays... do you suppose it's time to turn off the Christmas music? Just a thought. Comments are closed.
