A hint of early summer: highs around 80, cloudless skies. Scents include viburnum, wild onions, freshly cut grass, and the stink of lawn mower exhaust. Sounds include peace and quiet, bird song, and periodic eruptions of lawn mower. Yesterday morning the skies were crisscrossed by contrails from at least thirty planes - never seen anything like it before. Are the skies really that busy? Did some unusual atmospheric conditions lead to the formation of contrails? This photo doesn't do justice to what I saw: the sky looked like it was sporting plaid. A group of turkey vultures has been patrolling the area around my community lately. Do we smell bad? Today several birds were circling low enough that I could clearly see the pale undersides of their wings. Meanwhile a single vulture was flying much higher than the rest of the group - clearly management. The trees hereabouts are still displaying the aftereffects of the severe weather that plagued parts of the country. A number of large tree limbs are still lying around, and earlier I spotted a large limb that destroyed half of the roof on a gazebo. I'm enjoying the calm weather, but I wonder what Mother Nature is planning for the future. Comments are closed.
